Tet receives European Broadband Award

For the eighth year, the European Commission organised the European Broadband Awards, in which industry representatives from all European Union (EU) member states take part. This year, Latvian technology giant Tet was recognised as one of the top three in the Service Quality and Accessibility category.

In line with the EU’s challenging connectivity targets for 2030, work is underway to bring gigabit connectivity to every citizen. Investments by Tet, Latvia’s leading internet service provider, in optical internet coverage have enabled slightly more than 70% of Latvian homes to be reached, which exceeds the EU average.

In 2022, Tet will invest over 21 million euro in the backbone of the Latvian internet or the core network and its development. The total length of fibre-optic cables built in Latvia is approaching 14 000 kilometres.

“We are happy to be appreciated by both clients and international experts. So, we are continuing our journey with the conviction that an investment in the fibre-optic internet network is an investment in the future because the future of networks lies in this technology,” states Uldis Tatarčuks, chairman of the board at Tet.

Tet is also active on the international stage, collaborating and competing with other industry players. A Tet subsidiary is applying the knowledge it has gained from developing the fibre-optic network in Latvia to developing the network in Germany. In the last years, the company has taken part in expanding the network in the city of Essen.

Tet is making constant technical improvements to the fibre-optic network, ensuring a stable and safe internet connection, which is particularly important in times when remote work and studying have become the norm.
