Tele2 to invest EUR 20 million in network development this year

The multi-service company Tele2 plans to invest EUR 20 million in the development of its mobile network this year. The investment will go towards modernising the network and deploying 5G technology, as well as maintaining network capacity and building a new core data infrastructure.

According to the company, around 300 new 5G base stations will be launched this year throughout Latvia and 300 4G stations will be upgraded.

“This year our investment in network development is about a third higher than last year. We will focus on the development of 5G technology and the modernisation of the core data network, taking into account that data consumption in the Tele2 network increases every year, for example, it has increased by 19% over the last year,” says Līga Krūmiņa, Director of the Technical Department at Tele2. “The investments in network development will strengthen the capacity of our 4G network, as well as allow those customers who have 5G devices to benefit from the advantages of 5G.”

Currently, Tele2’s 5G network is available in 54 locations in Latvia. Some 5G stations operate at 700 MHz, which allows for much wider coverage, and some 5G stations operate at 3.5 GHz, which allows for faster mobile internet speeds.
