Ryanair plans to invest $ 200 million in a base in Riga

The company "Ryanair" will build a two-aircraft base in Riga, and the planned investment will reach 200 million US dollars.

It will provide access for passengers from Riga to many more routes of different countries worldwide.

The company will base two airplanes in Riga, making 95 flights a week to 30 routes, including 16 new routes that will connect Riga with many destinations in Europe from October 2021. The new base will provide better connectivity to the region, playing a crucial role in rebuilding jobs and the local economy.

With the creation of the new base, "Ryanair" will create 60 direct jobs.

Reports of 2020 reveal that Riga International Airport served only 2.01 million passengers - 74.2% fewer passengers than the previous year, according to operational data of the airport's performance last year.

The majority, namely, 57% of passengers served at Riga Airport in 2020, were carried by the national airline airBaltic, 16% by the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair and 9% by the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air.
