Ryanair launches a new base at the Riga Airport

Irish low-cost airline Ryanair announced in a release November 10 that a new base will be opened in Latvia, which will allow doubling destination numbers.

17 new routes to 12 countries, including, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Finland, France, the UK, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Ukraine, Norway and Hungary will be opened.

Ryanair’s Director of Commercial, Jason McGuinness, said:

“We are delighted to announce the opening of our new base in Riga (while other airlines close theirs), which will deliver increased connectivity with two based aircraft. This development will create over 60 direct jobs and offer our Latvian and Baltic customers a host of European destinations to choose from this winter and next summer, with over 100 weekly flights, across 35 routes (17 of which are new), connecting Latvia’s capital to the likes of Barcelona, Berlin, Helsinki, Malaga, Milan, Rome, and Vienna.”

Laila Odiņa, Chair of the Board of Riga Airport, said:

“Ryanair’s base in Riga is an important step for our Airport as a regional aviation hub. The wide range of routes and geography provided by Ryanair’s presence at Riga Airport will provide more opportunities for Latvian and Baltic passengers to choose exciting trips at affordable prices, while foreign tourists will benefit from more convenient opportunities to arrive in Latvia.”
