The leading European retailer Lidl announced October 3 the launch of its operations in Latvia will take place on Thursday, October 7, 2021, with simultaneous openings of 15 stores across the country.
The German chain will open stores in Rīga, Liepāja, Ventspils, Tukums, Jelgava, Ogre, Valmiera, Jēkabpils, Rēzekne and Daugavpils.
According to the company's own figures it has created over 2000 new jobs and invested over 200 million euros in Latvian market opening, including the construction of 15 stores and a regional logistics center, and investments into surrounding infrastructure - new street sections, traffic roundabouts and general local infrastructure improvements.
Operating hours of all the Lidl stores in Latvia will be daily from 8.00 until 22.00. The official opening and ribbon-cutting ceremonies at all the new store locations will take place a few minutes before 8.00 on October 7 in presence of invited guests, and the opening of the Lidl store at 81 Sergeja Eizenšteina Street in Rīga will be attended by the German Ambassador to Latvia Christian Heldt.
“Lidl Latvija team is very happy about this big upcoming day... Everyone here at Lidl eagerly looks forward to meeting our clients in the brand new Lidl stores all across Latvia,” said Jakob Josefsson, chairman of the board of Lidl Latvija.
Lidl is well known all over Europe for its retail model. The new buildings are claimed to be energy efficient and use only the Green electricity purchased from Latvenergo. They have received the international EDGE building certificate.
Lidl is reminding anyone intending to be there on the first day to comply with all the Covid-19 safety measures, maintain social distancing outside and inside the stores, and be aware that the number of shoppers allowed in at any one time will be limited, in accordance with the latest government regulations.
