In 2022, the average data consumption per SIM card for LMT customers was 43.6 gigabytes, according to Tefficient’s figures. This has allowed LMT to take the leading position in the Baltics, becoming the only Baltic mobile network operator to enter the global top five mobile networks by average mobile data consumption per SIM card.
“Tefficient’s figures over the years demonstrate the significance of targeted infrastructure development: the more accessible, broad and high-performance a mobile data transmission network is, the more people are willing to use it,” explains LMT President Juris Binde.
On average, LMT builds, renovates or expands 5G from at least one new base station every day. “Although our society is only just starting to make use of these opportunities, it is clear that the benefits of 5G will be increasingly appreciated over the next few years, and data consumption will increase significantly,” predicts Binde.
LMT has more than 380 5G base stations available in more than 180 settlements throughout Latvia. In total, LMT has 1,590 base stations. In 2022, LMT invested more than €34.8 million in building its network and infrastructure, and investments also continue this year. A significant portion of the investments is dedicated to the expansion of 5G throughout Latvia.
In 2021, LMT customers were in fifth place in Europe and ninth place worldwide by mobile data consumption per SIM card, reported Labs of Latvia. LMT’s average data consumption per SIM card in 2021 was 26.8 gigabytes. By volume of data transmitted, LMT was in the top 30 in Europe and first in the Baltics.
