Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Latvian citizens and businesses have donated €10.2 million for aid, the “Ziedot.lv” charity organization said May 5. €9.8 million has already been used in direct aid.

Donations are used to provide practical assistance to Ukraine and its people. The transfer of assistance is organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs, the Latvian Embassy in Ukraine and the support of Latvian Honors citizens in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Embassy in Latvia and the “Entrepreneurs for Peace” initiative, as well as the Ukrainian charities.

From the donated:

  • Nearly €1.7 million has been used for medical goods and medicines for Ukrainian hospitals and territorial protection units;
  • Over €2.4 million has been used for food products, hygiene products ad other everyday goods;
  • Nearly €4.6 million supports Ukrainian territorial protection units, army and the national Guard;
  • Over €1.1 million has been channeled for the support of Ukrainian refugees in Latvia.
  • “Ziedot.lv” thanks every resident of Latvia for donations of money and practical help, adding that Ukraine will be in need of assistance for a long time, particularly when the war ends, for infrastructure, medical treatment and an array of other things.

As of May 5, the “Ziedot.lv” portal provides businesses an opportunity to contribute to the “Entrepreneurs for Peace” initiative, which has so far provided substantial support to Ukraine.
