Italian Innovation Company Expands to Latvia and Plans to Hire Local Talent

Italian technology and innovation company “Studio 5T” has chosen Latvia as the location for its next stage of international expansion. Alongside new research and development projects, the company is also preparing to create job opportunities for young professionals and students in the country.

Founded in late 2019, Studio 5T originally focused on operating a research and prototyping laboratory connected to the University of Rome. The company’s early work revolved around supporting experimental projects and providing advanced technical resources for academic innovation. As its expertise grew, the business gradually expanded into larger national and European research programs.

Today, the company works in the fields of advanced manufacturing and medical technologies, combining robotics, electronics, CNC systems, and 3D printing solutions. Studio 5T currently employs around 20 people, including a team of highly skilled technical specialists involved in research, product development, and prototyping.

International collaboration has become one of the company’s main priorities. Over the past year, Studio 5T has taken part in the development of multiple research initiatives and submitted more than eight project proposals, several of them together with European partners.

According to company representative Focanti, one of the most important achievements so far has been managing research laboratories across Italy’s Lazio region. This experience helped strengthen the company’s position in digital manufacturing and engineering innovation.

Another major step forward came through cooperation with leading Italian hospitals, where Studio 5T contributed to biomedical and healthcare-related projects. These partnerships allowed the company to apply its technical expertise to real-world medical solutions and expand into the healthcare sector.

In addition to research activities, the company has also launched a dedicated training division aimed at helping young professionals and students develop practical skills in innovation, applied engineering, and digital production technologies.

Studio 5T has now officially started operations in Latvia. The company intends to develop at least two international projects together with Latvian universities, especially Riga Technical University. Cooperation between both sides has already begun through a joint study initiative, and students are expected to visit Italy this summer to gain hands-on experience within the company.

Focanti explained that Latvia stood out for several reasons, including its business-friendly environment, competitive costs, highly educated workforce, and strong higher education system. He also described Latvia as a strategic location for reaching the wider Baltic region.

“What impressed us most was the speed and openness of the business environment in Latvia. There is a strong willingness to cooperate internationally and develop new ideas,” he noted.

The company also emphasized the positive support received from Latvian institutions both in Riga and in Italy. According to Focanti, the communication and assistance provided by the Latvian Embassy played an important role in the decision to invest in the country.

Experts from the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia have similarly observed increasing interest from Italian companies. Factors such as direct Riga–Rome flights, modern digital infrastructure, highly digitalized public services, and tax advantages - including a 0% tax on reinvested profits - continue to attract foreign investors.

Over the coming year, Studio 5T plans to recruit young specialists in Riga who will help manage future European-level projects in partnership with Latvian universities. At the same time, the company plans to involve its own staff in exchange programs with Latvia in order to learn from innovative approaches used at Riga Technical University.
