‘Balticovo’ starts producing egg white ice cream

The producer of eggs and egg products Balticovo has entered the ice cream segment, creating two new products - classical ice cream and the first egg protein ice cream in the Baltics.

Egg protein ice cream differs in its high protein and low carbohydrate content.

"Egg as an integral part of an ice cream recipe - this is a strategically new milestone, and thus we have laid the foundation stone for the development of the Balticovo Premium brand and product strategy. We are very pleased to be the first in the Baltics to create ice cream using high-quality egg protein," says Toms Auškāps, Communication and Development Director of AS Balticovo, Member of the Board.

The demand for protein products, including alternatives to ice creams, has rapidly grown in recent years, and egg protein ice cream can be considered a particularly exclusive product, which currently has no equivalent competitors in the Baltics.

"Following today's trends, it is clear that we need to look for new niches and products to surprise consumers and find ways to adapt to their lifestyle. In the West and the UK, protein ice cream has already won the trust of gourmets, and now we think this category of products could become just as popular in the Baltics. With this R&D investment, we have introduced ourselves as a new player in the ice cream market," explains T.Auškāps.

As a result of evaluating consumer behaviour, Balticovo's ice cream assortment currently includes both egg protein ice cream and classic ice cream. Protein ice cream is based on egg whites and is available in four flavour variations - strawberry, chocolate, mango and vanilla. This product category contains pure protein (18g per 100g of product) and very low carbohydrate, sugar and fat content. Only eggs laid outside the cages have been used in the new egg white ice cream production.

In 2019, the turnover of Balticovo was 50.914 million euros, which is 4.6% more than a year earlier, while the company's profit decreased 3.3 times and was 1.614 million.
