AlphaRoute Receives MiCA License from Latvijas Banka

AlphaRoute has officially received a crypto-asset service provider licence from Latvijas Banka under the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation.

The licence authorises AlphaRoute to provide a comprehensive range of crypto-asset services, including:

  • Custody and administration of crypto-assets on behalf of clients;
  • Operation of a crypto-asset trading platform;
  • Exchange of crypto-assets for funds;
  • Exchange of crypto-assets for other crypto-assets;
  • Placement of crypto-assets;
  • Transfer services for crypto-assets on behalf of clients.
  • Receiving a MiCA licence marks an important milestone for AlphaRoute, enabling the company to provide regulated crypto-asset services across the European Union under the MiCA passporting framework.

The decision to establish its licensed entity in Latvia followed an extensive assessment of several EU jurisdictions. We have been thinking about this for a long time, well before the regulation became fully applicable. Although Malta, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia and Lithuania were all considered, it was Latvia that ultimately stood out.

"The CFO and I got on a plane from Gdańsk to Riga and travelled into the unknown. We only had the address of one law firm and one bank. During our stay, we had the opportunity to speak with representatives of the Bank of Latvia, the Latvian regulator responsible for the crypto-asset market, as well as having numerous discussions with our legal advisors. The openness, professionalism, and friendly approach of the people we met made such a strong impression on us that, after returning to Poland, we decided to choose Latvia as the country where we would apply for our MiCA license," recalls Dominik Tomczyk, CEO of SIA AlphaRoute.

That first impression was confirmed throughout the licensing process.

"Today, after completing the entire process, I can confirm that choosing Latvia was the right decision. Our numerous interactions with the team at the Bank of Latvia, together with the process of adapting our business to Latvian law in many areas, supported by the expertise of the Walless law firm, allowed us to successfully complete the licensing process and obtain our MiCA CASP license on 18 June 2026. This is a shared international success, made possible through the cooperation of many people from both Poland and Latvia," says Dominik Tomczyk.

Following the licensing process, representatives of AlphaRoute met with Latvijas Banka to discuss supervisory expectations, meet the supervisory team that will oversee the company's activities, and explore opportunities for future cooperation, supporting a smooth start as a regulated crypto-asset service provider.

Looking ahead, the company sees MiCA as more than a regulatory requirement. In its view, the new framework creates opportunities to scale across Europe while contributing to a more integrated financial market.

"There is no doubt that a single MiCA license enables us to provide services to more than 450 million people across the European Union through the passporting mechanism. We do not see the new regulations simply as a cost. They create a new barrier to entry, but at the same time they establish a common and more integrated financial market across the EU," says Łukasz Żeligowski, Member of the Management Board of SIA AlphaRoute.

The company's ambitions also extend well beyond operating a cryptocurrency exchange. Through KangaExchange.EU, AlphaRoute plans to build regulated digital financial infrastructure that combines payments, custody, trading and stablecoins within a single ecosystem for both business and retail clients.

"The biggest market barrier is not technology itself, but the lack of regulated and scalable infrastructure that connects financial institutions, compliance, and customer experience within one ecosystem. This is the ambitious goal we have set for our company.

We want to build a European digital finance platform. We are placing a strong focus on developing infrastructure dedicated to both B2B and B2C markets. Our goal is to simplify access to the digital economy, remove technological barriers, and create a secure environment that supports the mass adoption of digital assets across Europe.

We have a lot of work ahead of us. Paradoxically, obtaining a license hasn't made it any easier. Quite the opposite, in fact. But we're happy that we have more challenges ahead, and a lot of positive energy." - says Dominik Tomczyk.

This achievement reflects AlphaRoute's commitment to high standards of governance, regulatory compliance and client protection. As the European crypto market enters a new regulatory era, the company is well positioned to contribute to the development of a secure and trusted digital asset ecosystem across the European Union.
