3 Latvian companies develop combined mobility platform

Three Latvian companies – mobility.delivered, Mobilly and Jāņa sēta – have joined forces to develop a new mobility app for the Estonian cities of Tallinn and Tartu. The app will unite public transport and other mobility service providers in one single platform, allowing users to plan their trip and pay for it more conveniently in one place.

“Our aim is to create a platform, which would help people combine different means of transport, making it easier for people to move about the cities,” said Deputy Mayor of Tallinn, Tanel Kiik, in a statement. “In order to do so, different service providers must work together. In addition to buses, trolleybuses, trams and trains the app must include taxis and electric scooters as well,” added Kiik.

The head of the startup mobility.delivered, Jānis Meirāns, shared that the idea of combining different modes of transport into a unified system is very exciting. “We are confident that the residents and visitors of Tallinn and Tartu will appreciate our joint efforts to provide sustainable and convenient daily transport in one solution,” added Meirāns.

Mobilly is a mobile payment provider. So far in Latvia, the company’s app allows paying for car parks, electric vehicle charges, taxi services, postage, train and bus tickets, museum admission, Riga public transport tickets and other services.

Jāņa sēta is a company with over 25 years of experience in the fields of geographic information systems and cartography.

The budget for the project to develop the mobility platform is €120 000, of which the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) will cover half, and the cities of Tallinn and Tartu the other half. Tallinn’s share of funding is one third and Tartu’s one sixth.

Meirāns has stated via social media that the companies are working on a similar platform for Riga.
